Question: 2. When Benedick refuses to kill Claudio, Beatrice wishes that she were
a man so that she could challenge Claudio to single combat. How is her
wish a sign that the men around her are acting dishonorably? Summarize
Beatrice’s opinion of men in 4.1.300-307. Is she correct in her
assessment of the men around her? In your opinion, would she make a
better man at this point?
Answer:Beatrice's wish is a sign that men around her are acting very dishonorably because their are no men in her family that can challenge Claudio for what he has done. Hero is an only child, and the next person after here to stand up as a brother figure is Beatrice. All the men which are around at the moment are all on Claudio's side. Beatrice knows her cousin well enough to know she has done nothing wrong and, that it is all a big lie. In my opinion Beatrice would make a better man at this point because she would take control and do what is deserved to Claudio and put him in his place for all his wrong doings and messing up Hero's life.
I *love* the "older brother" concept! It is true that if she could, she would right Hero's wrongdoing...
