Question: 1.
In Act 2.1, Don Pedro claims that Beatrice would make “an excellent
wife for Benedick,” and Leonato responds that “if they were but a week
married, they would talk themselves mad” (265-7).
From
what we know of Benedick and Beatrice from Acts 1 and 2, who do you
think is right, Don Pedro or Leonato? Support your answer by referring
to Benedick and Beatrice’s initial exchange in 1.1.85-106, their teasing
of each other in 2.1.91-114, Benedick’s angry speech to Don Pedro in
2.1.179-213, and Benedick’s soliloquy in 2.3. 181-200.
Answer: From what we know I believe Leonato was right because that is a pretty solid statement to assume about both Benedick and Beatrice not lasting more than a week married. Only for the simple fact that they both cant get along with one another for more then 30 seconds and start arguing about the smallest things. Beatrice and Benedick would never seem to ever be together married in a million years but Don Pedro says other wise and attempts to make it happen. Although when two individuals tease one another in the way Beatrice and Benedick have it normally means they have some sort of feelings for one another and you can tell that from the start but that's not always the case.
Good thinking. It is true that their love for each other is rather sudden...
